Created for the Level Her Up 2024 Game Jam with the theme of 'Balance', this Glowmance demo is a 2D puzzle-adventure, side-scrolling platformer that tells the heartwarming tale of Lumina, a spirited glow worm, on a quest to reunite with her soulmate, Ray. 

The concept

Using light and shadow as both an aesthetic and gameplay mechanic, Glowmance aims to craft a visually beautiful, atmospheric experience while reinforcing the theme of balance. A dreamlike tone and harmonious mechanics provide a meditative experience that combines exploration, puzzle-solving, and the quiet, cosmic story of two souls intertwined in an eternal dance.

Players control Lumina, using her ethereal glow to illuminate her path, reveal hidden platforms, and solve intricate puzzles in a world shrouded in shadow. However, her glow must be carefully balanced—too bright, and the light attracts dangerous shadow creatures that lurk nearby; too dim, and Lumina risks losing her way in the darkness.

• Dynamic Glow Mechanic: Adjust Lumina’s glow to interact with the environment—cast light to reveal hidden paths or dim it to avoid danger.
• Ethereal World Design: Stunning, hand-drawn characters, blended with glowing bioluminescent forests, shadowy caves, and magical twilight skies.
• Emotional Storyline: Follow Lumina’s heartfelt journey to restore balance and reunite with Ray, weaving themes of love, trust, and harmony.
• Challenging Puzzles: Solve light-based puzzles, shadow mazes, and platforming challenges that grow more complex as the balance theme deepens.

In Glowmance, players must embrace the beauty of balance, navigating a mesmerising world where light and dark are not adversaries, but partners in creating something truly luminous. Can Lumina find her way back to Ray and restore harmony to their world?
